Meet the Pilates equipment.
Pilates is a full-body system of exercise. Its history dates back to the work of Joseph Pilates who had a whole lot of ideas how humans should move, breathe, and live
Mobility + Strength = Movement Freedom
What sets Pilates apart is its use of a whole toolbox of special equipment. On this page, you’ll learn about a few of the many types of apparatuses (or “machines”) we use in group classes and private training.

Our Equipment
Wondering how many kinds of Pilates machines there are? The answer is: a heck of a lot. Joseph Pilates was kind of an obsessive inventor and designer.
In our studio– and many Pilates studios today — you’ll see three primary machines (apparatuses) in use.
The Reformer
The proverbial most popular kid in school. The reformer has a bed-like frame with a sliding carriage at the center. This carriage is connected to the frame by springs. As you move your body, you work with the resistance of the springs to move the carriage.
We have three models of reformer in our studio to accommodate different heights and needs in group classes. We encourage you to try them all to find what helps support your body best!
The Tower
An upright frame with attached springs and an elevated mat. The springs are then hooked to bars or straps to use for resistance, assistance and more. The tower is adapted from Mr. Pilates original “Cadillac” — a sort of jungle gym for adults! .
Wunda Chair
Don’t be fooled by the Pilates chair. It looks innocent enough (a workout sitting down!) but it delivers a TOUGH workout experience.
The Wunda chair (or stability chair) is a seat with a moving pedal. The pedal is connected to the seat with, you guessed it, springs. The pedal is pushed or pulled up and down with your limbs in a million different configurations.
